Renaissance Era

I love this trend or notion of era’s existing within our own lives, our communities, society at large etc. The slut era, the untouchable era, all of these ways to track where we are, what we need, how we are interacting with one another and the world around us. I love this because its part pattern, part aesthetic, part joke, part support. It gives us something to rub up against for reference, it gives us a sense of community and belonging in the world around us at large and it also is a way to track time outside of linear time which I personally love.

Lately the Renaissance Era has been my contemplation, especially as the last weekend in Montreal was particularly glorious for weather and friendship/connection. For a while I was in my slut era - about reclaiming my pleasures and what they were and how I built a relationship with them. Then my untouchable era, where I took everything I learned and allowed myself to be untouched by the perceptions, opinions and notions of others around me when it came to me, my life, what I loved. A sort of “rising above” vibe.

So now, as summer approaches I’ve been thinking about how once again there is transformation around me. Once again there is a new era emerging, a new archetype of the self. I recently rewatched Marie Antoinette directed by Sophia Coppola and I was like yes…. this is it. This is the vibe for the summer in so many ways that I’m already seeing unfold. I have also been playing around with the 90’s teen and dad archetypes for this summer but that’s more of a “choose your player” conversation.

I’m not going to get super technical here like I can do sometimes, this is list format what is the renaissance era and how can one play in it. This is just a silly list, it needs not be taken too seriously but I found it fun to think about the archetypes and the little nuances of them and how they would come forward in a more modern/approachable way. This is my still growing, non-exhaustive list of the…
