How To Road Trip: Spiritual Guide
know that no matter when you leave, you are leaving on time
slow down at beautiful places, pull onto the side of the road or into the right hand lane and let yourself take some moments to gasp
do not hold your pee for too long, and pee in nature as often as you can. reserve bathrooms for pooping if possible.
make a playlist of songs you have loved through your whole life, specifically radio hits from your childhood and CD’s you loved
scream-sing every single song
take moments to be quiet and listen to nothing. no radio, no phone calls, no podcast.
if it is late, and warm, and you are on a road with nature roll your windows down - even take a side road for a while - and listen to the crickets and frogs and whatever else there is
it’s okay to be a little dehydrated on your journey. it’s also okay to stop many times to pee.
find your favourite fast food chains and eat a silly combination of things. forgo the classic combo, get a burger and chicken nuggets and swamp water to drink.
if there is a roadside food stand with a line, you must pull over and get in the line. ask them what their speciality is. eat it.
get your favourite snacks. get an obscene amount of them that you couldn’t possibly finish in one go. have them in the passenger seat.
stretch every time you get out of the car. yawn. get oxygen into your body.
save your best songs and drinks for the last hour.
sometimes a poem will run through you and you will need to pull over and write it down, you should do that.
if ditch flowers are blooming along your journey pick them and try not to pee on them incase other people want to pick them
when it gets late enough, find the moon and let it follow you
smell the air in the different places you go. provinces, towns, territories. the air smells different all the time.
keep sacred objects with you on your journey. rosemary, a mala, crystals, palo santo in the dash board
always have gum
take your shoes off when driving as often as possible
put on the seat warmers and roll the windows down
look at the license plates - where are people from? are there angel numbers?
if you get stuck in traffic, this is a break from the universe. don’t try to make up time, just let yourself be slowed and accept it.
take a photo of yourself at some point in the journey. you don’t need to share it - just have it for yourself.
try to make angel numbers out of your gas tank fill-ups. keep the receipts if you do.
call a friend or a family member, just to say hi and check-in.
do not do any serious work on the road, you are travelling through a portal. leave it for after.
bring a neck pillow, your favourite sunglasses, and your favourite sweatshirt to wear on your journey. your favourite hat too. its ok to look ridiculous.
smile at all the people you buy things from, and ask them how they are and really mean it. say thank you in a very sincere way.
smile at the people stuck beside you in traffic
give one of your ditch flowers away - to a gas station employee, to a friend when you arrive - whatever feels good.
watch the sky, it’s changing colours and moods. does it reflect your own experience?
drink drip coffee from mediocre chains with a little too much cream, let yourself get hyped up at 8PM because you still have a few hours to go
if you’re driving to a familiar place, turn off your navigation once you get within the vicinity of what you know and let muscle memory guide you
